ONE  GRANT  AVAILABLE  TO  HELP FUND  PSYCHOANALYSIS  OF

MENTAL  HEALTH  PROFESSIONALS  OR  PEDIATRICIANS

The Sterba Fund (the Fund) of the Michigan Society for Psychoanalytic Psychology (MSPP) is accepting applications for a grant to assist in funding the psychoanalysis of a mental health professional or a pediatrician (grants are not available to students or candidates).

The Fund is named in honor of Richard F. Sterba, M.D., an eminent psychoanalytic writer and practitioner.  It was established to promote psychoanalytic understanding of human behavior as a means to benefit the community.  The way in which the Fund fulfills its goal is to help support the personal psychoanalyses of carefully selected individuals who are providing or intend to provide services to the community.

Potential grant recipients qualify for consideration by virtue of their need for financial support to enter, continue or increase the frequency of psychoanalysis.  Efforts are made to renew grants to the extent deemed reasonable and necessary for grant recipients to complete their psychoanalyses.

An application for a Fund grant consists of submission of a completed Sterba Fund Application Form and a C.V. or resume.  The information requested on the Application Form includes: (1) a statement of financial need with lists all sources of income and expenses; (2) a description of current or projected plans for undertaking psychoanalysis; (3) the name of the professional conducting the analysis; and, (4) information as to how the applicant believes his or her psychoanalytic experience could benefit the community.  A copy of federal income tax returns might be requested at a later date, and individuals who receive grants might be required to submit updates of their financial circumstances periodically.  Applications for grants must be received by December 31, 2004.

Based upon a review of written materials submitted, selected individuals will be invited to interview with members of the Board.  Attempts are always made to keep the identity of applicants and grant recipients confidential, and the applications of individuals who do not receive grants will be destroyed.  Final selection of grant recipients will be made by the Board.  Inquiries, requests for Applications, and completed Applications should be sent to:
