From the President
Etta G. Saxe, Ph.D. We begin this year with some changes in Board members. Dr. Susan Greenshields was elected Secretary and Dr. Raymond Vasser has agreed to take over our financial affairs. We welcome both of them and look forward to their participation in our efforts. Dr. Gordon MacKinnon, our outgoing Treasurer, leaves financial matters in a well organized and user-friendly condition. We especially appreciate his pleasantly persistent availability and effort in keeping the financial information we needed to make wiser decisions, on our radar screens. We also thank him for the “extras” he undertook to keep the Society running smoothly. Dr. Lisa Kelly is leaving her board position as Secretary. She has performed the difficult job of minute taking and keeping with care and good humor and has performed the many less visible tasks that fall to the Secretary with equal competence and spirit. Both officers have participated actively in board deliberations and we look forward to their continuing interest in and commitment to MSPP. On behalf of the board and membership, I thank Dr. MacKinnon and Dr. Kelly for their time and talents. Although other board members remain in their positions I want to thank each of them for their work and thinking together on issues important to MSPP and psychoanalytic psychology during the first year of my term as president. We faced many challenges and moved into new terrain and I know the journey has been high maintenance for all of us. At the MSPP Board Meeting of May 5, 2002, the MSPP Board, after many months of thorough and wide ranging deliberation, voted to take a position opposing the implementation of Mandatory Continuing Education (MCE) for psychologists in Michigan. The MSPP Statement of Position Against the Implementation of Mandatory Continuing Education in Michigan born, in part, of these discussions, was created, organized and crafted by a committee of Board members. This Statement of Position was adopted at the Board Meeting of September 8, 2002. The complete text of this Statement can be found here in this issue of the News. It is published here for the purpose of informing the members of MSPP and other interested readers. The Board would be interested in hearing ideas, thoughts and queries about these important matters.
