MSPP exists and functions through the collaborative efforts of its members, many of whom actively contribute to the work of its various committees and projects. This section provides information about each of these activities, along with a listing of current committee members, project coordinators and organizational representatives.

MSPP Executive Committee

The Executive Committee (EC) is charged with overseeing MSPP's business operations. It is comprised of the current elected officers and the immediate Past President. 

The MSPP Executive Board meets monthly, addresses all official organizational matters, and conducts voting under Robert's Rules of Order. The Executive Board consists of all Executive Committee members, the current standing and ad hoc committee chairpersons, the Editor of the MSPP News, the Graduate Student Representative, the Section IV Representative, and the MSPP Section Representatives.

Bernard Mikol Memorial Project

Bernard Mikol, Ph.D. (1918-1994) was a founding and active member of the Michigan Society for Psychoanalytic Psychology who devoted a major portion of his professional life to education, training and professional development of students and colleagues.

In his memory, MSPP has established the Bernard Mikol Memorial Project funded by voluntary additions to MSPP dues and other monetary support. The purpose of the project is to support the education and development of students of psychoanalysis.

Members of MSPP are encouraged to make a voluntary addition to their dues payments. MSPP is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. Donations are tax deductible.

 

Center for Psychoanalytic Studies: Task Force on Psychoanalytic Studies

The Center for Psychoanalytic Studies (the Center) is part of the Michigan Society for Psychoanalytic Psychology (MSPP). The Center provides an opportunity for educational experiences for self-motivated people interested in studying psychoanalysis as a way of thinking. Membership in MSPP is required to participate in the activities of the Center.

Editor, MSPP News

The News Editor creates and produces the society's newsletter, which is currently in its tenth volume of publication. The MSPP News, is published three times yearly, in February, June, and October. 

The newsletter includes a letter from the President, the Editor's column, a calendar of events, announcements, member news, and articles of interest to the MSPP membership.

Graduate Student Representative

Graduate students comprise a significant portion (over 15%) of the membership of MSPP. The interests, concerns, aims, and ideas of graduate students thus represent a significant voice, and rich source of information for this organization.

 

The Graduate Student Representative serves as: 

1. Representative to the Board, of the voice of MSPP's graduate student members

2. Representative to the graduate students, of MSPP's business and educational activities

3. Organizer of outreach efforts to introduce MSPP to Michigan area graduate students  from diverse educational programs and backgrounds who are interested  in the ongoing, self-directed study of psychoanalytic ways of thinking about people.

 Membership Committee

The Chair of the Membership Committee conducts the annual membership drive, develops the annual MSPP Membership Directory, receives and processes membership applications, organizes the annual New Members Reception, and serves as the contact person for anyone who is interested in learning more about MSPP, and/or is requesting membership information.

The Program Committee is responsible for arranging the educational programs of the Society for the calendar year. The Chair of the committee is the Vice-President of MSPP.

MSPP invites student members and full members to consider presenting papers and case presentations for our Sunday meetings. Ideas for monthly meetings and conferences are welcomed. Representative from the Academy for the Study of the Psychoanalytic Arts

One representative from each Section of the Society occupies a seat on the MSPP Executive Board and attends the monthly meetings.  The Academy Representative serves as communication liaison between the MSPP Executive Board and Academy Board of Directors.   

 

Representative to Section IV of Division 39: Barry Dauphin, Ph.D.

Section IV is the Divisional home for the Division 39's thirty local chapters. The MSPP Section IV Representative is appointed by the incoming President to serve during his or her term of office. This representative serves as communication liaison between the MSPP Executive Board and Section IV Senate which meets twice yearly at the Division 39 meetings. Dr. Dauphin can be reached at 248-203-9662.

The Webeditor is responsible for maintaining and updating the website, for working with the MSPP Board to further develop the website.
