A Brief History of Section IV: A Section of APA Division 39 The Michigan Society for Psychoanalytic Psychology (MSPP) is the Michigan local chapter of Section IV of the Division of Psychoanalysis (39) of the American Psychological Association. An organizational chart from the October 1998 issue of the MSPP Newsletter provides a visual depiction of where MSPP fits within the organizational structure of APA's Division of Psychoanalysis. The American Psychological Association currently has 54 different divisions, one of which is the Division of Psychoanalysis (Division 39). The Division of Psychoanalysis is currently comprised of nine sections which were established to represent diverse interests within Division 39's membership. Section IV, the Division's section of Local Chapters, was formed for the purpose of providing a national voice for psychoanalytic thinking, and a forum for these local chapters to convene and share news and concerns.
